The word “almadraba” comes from the Arabic and means a place where to hit or where to fight. It is a fishing gear used by the Phoenicians and later the Romans on the shores of the province of Cadiz.It consists of installing a labyrinth of nets in the passage of the tuna, from April to June . It is situated near the coast, from the Atlantic to the Mediterranean . It is a traditional fishing, unaggressive, and respectful of the species and the environment. Traditionally there were almadrabas in all the coastal Cadiz towns but currently they are concentrated in villages like Conil, Barbate, Zahara de los Atunes and Tarifa
